There will be a series of entries on accreditation requirements for an on-premises laundry (OPL) in aged care.
The staff employed are trained to be able to articulate all the key steps of the process.
Aged care assessors look for evidence that laundry systems protect residents from infection, maintain dignity, and ensure safe, high‑quality outcomes.
Operational Systems
What assessors expect to see:
- A documented laundry workflow that prevents cross‑contamination (clean and dirty separation).
- Staff trained in infection prevention and control (IPC) principles, including handling of soiled linen and PPE use.
- Clear procedures for receiving, sorting, washing, drying, finishing, storing, and distributing linen.
- Compliance with AS 4146:2024 Laundry Practice, which outlines validated processes for hygienic laundering and quality assurance.
- Evidence of regular audits, continuous improvement, and corrective actions.
